Competency Based Governance Model: Case Study with the American Thoracic Society

High performing organizations regularly assess themselves, their structure, their culture, their practices. The American Thoracic Society (ATS), an association with “leading scientific discovery” as one of its four strategic pillars, chose to undergo a governance assessment in 2022-2023 to align their governance model with leading practices. ATS partnered with AMC consulting to utilize tools developed with leading practices to construct the framework for change. Webinar participants will follow ATS’ journey of governance examination and evolution with key staff and volunteer leaders from ATS, including tips, challenges, and what changes they would make if they could repeat the process for change.

While the project ATS undertook was in governance, the ideas shared can be applied beyond governance to other association-wide efforts for change.
