CESSE Webinar: DEIA in Scholarly Publishing: From Principles to Practice

What’s common between scholarly publishers and tech giants Google and Apple? An ever-increasing global audience!

Membership of scientific societies are increasingly diverse in representation and successful publications business models build a presence that’s welcoming of everyone.

While many DEIA conversations focus on workforce, organizational, and membership lenses, integration of DEIA values into scholarly publications warrants a closer look. As a significant driver of member growth, scholarly publications touch upon a high volume of volunteers as authors, peer reviewers, editorial committee members, subject matter experts, readers, and others.

This session features a panel of experts from organizations who are leaders in practicing DEIA principles to share their success stories, as well as challenges, for adoption and integration of these values in publications work. The discussion will cover proven strategies to create an inclusive publishing culture; embedding DEIA principles in systems, staff, and workflows; assessing outcomes; and measuring success.

Whether your organization is starting out or leading in its DEIA journey, you’ll leave with practical, experience-based tools and information to make your organization’s publications program more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible.
