Twelve university-level institutions offer 170 engineering programs at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, with approximately 3,000 students graduating from all three levels each year. Economically, there are currently close to 15,000 employees in the sub-sectors of engineering, architecture and affiliated services.
The Polytechnique de Montréal is an internationally recognized engineering school. It has 58 engineering research units and conducts close to one-quarter of all of Québec’s research in this sector. Montréal itself enjoys a long history as a creative city and holds the most patents in Canada. In fact, in 2011, 50% of Québec’s patents were awarded in Montréal.
Recognized as a global hub for AI research and innovation, the city is also shaping the future of engineering and leading the way towards industry 4.0. Greater Montréal’s research and academic leadership focus on excellence, creativity, innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration. In addition to highly specialized research centers, the city offers 36 programs in six major universities, in the subspecialties of electrical, electronics and computer engineering.
