CESSE Statement on Racism and Equity

CESSE's commitment to working towards more diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM.

The Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives (CESSE) joins with its member's organizations in denouncing the systemic racism and the egregious violent actions that led to the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor – and so many other victims of racially motivated violence and abuse.

In working toward more diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM, CESSE commits to:

  • Share and communicate diversity, equity, and inclusion resources through our website, on-line communities, educational programs, and events

  • Cultivate a community of equality and dignity, in which everyone is held accountable to the highest standards of respect and humanity

  • Listen and learn the best ways to help assure equal opportunity and justice to our Black and underrepresented communities within the STEM community.

We understand that these commitments are not enough, and that change does not start or end with statements such as this one.

As an organization comprised of individuals from STEM societies and non-profit organizations, CESSE clearly and unequivocally states that the lives and contributions of black individuals matter and that diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical to the success of our individual organizations and as a community.
