Leading the Way

2008 CESSE MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE PROGRAM

LEADING THE WAY:
Energize Your Brain, Enhance your Skills and Learn from the Experts

As leaders, you are role models for all around you. With information, demands and technology growing exponentially you need to think, act and manage in new ways. You need to increase your self-awareness, lead from your strengths, expand your imagination and unlock your creativity. Don’t miss this chance to kick-off the conference with a new perspective of yourself, additional tactics to work smarter and renewed enthusiasm for your work.

This three-part, interactive, energizing program, led by scientist, professor, professional speaker and leadership coach Nancy Riesz, MBA will take you in-depth on the following topics:

Part 1 - Innovative Thinking
With the session title of What Do You Think? Are You a Genius? be prepared for an interactive, experiential session. As we become immersed in habits and the busyness of our daily routines, we lose perspective. We cease to question and challenge what is going on, often accepting ineffective ways to do things because that is the way it has always been done. Nancy will show you how to open your mind to new ideas and ways of thinking. And, provide skills and ideas to be the kind of leader who attracts and keeps the best staff and members. It also demonstrates how to have fun while learning and working.

Topics included in this session include:
• Methods to open you and your mind to new ways of thinking
• Techniques to recognize and move beyond perceptual barriers to change
• Practices to create ideas that solve problems, make $$$ and further your career

Part 2 – How to Be a Great Coach for Your Team
After a short break, you will enter a new realm of leadership effectiveness. Coaching is an innovative, non-threatening way to lead people in today’s associations. Whether it is your boss, colleagues, staff or volunteers, coaching is not something you just start doing. It is a specific practice to learn and a skill to be developed with a language of its own. Coaching is the essential skill to convert people’s talents into performance.
Topics in this session include:
• Essential elements for attracting and keeping great players
• How to develop peak performance in players
• The language of coaching
• Hands on practice: You as the coach
