CESSE Leadership Forum – Overview and Purpose

The intended outcome of the CESSE Leadership Forum is to provide a very interactive experience for CESSE’s Governance Team Members (board and senior staff) to  explore the evolving effective governance practices being utilized by successful associations to meet both current and future challenges. In today's rapidly and unpredictable world, how can boards create and sustain a strategic focus that includes a culture that embraces innovation? What will  leaders  need to do to continue to evolve an  unique and relevant  value proposition? The program is designed to be very interactive with opportunities for learning  with the Content Leaders and other board leaders and senior staff members.

If you could only attend one professional development program this year this is the one to attend.

Why should you attend?

Give us a day and one half and we’ll demonstrate how top not-for-profit strategic focused leadership teams employ the latest tools, strategies and best practices to effectively lead their associations into the future

The  Leadership Forum is an intensive session designed to better equip both the Chief Elected Officer and the Chief Staff  to transform their boards from successfully keep pace with the constantly changing environment in which your board  must be ‘leading edge’ in order to keep the organization relevant to its member.

The objective of the session is to focus on the strategies and practices that successful not-for-profit governance leadership teams (both volunteer leaders and senior staff) are using to create a more Knowledge Based governance and process to increase future organizational success.

Some participants discover key strategies to update and refine their current governance practices. Others will discover that the Forum provides them with the impetus their organization really needs to start making the transformation to a Knowledge Based Governance System.

The program will present and interactively explore trends, strategies and best practices in the following areas:

Discussion Thread 1: The Challenge of leading not-for-profits today.
Discussion Thread 2: Building a culture that promotes and sustains innovation at all levels.
Discussion Thread 2: Building a strategic focused governance team.
Discussion Thread 3: Strategies to develop a more strategic board focus.
Discussion Thread 4: Building knowledge based governance strategy.

The session is not a presentation.  It is a facilitated interactive dialogue with the participants and the consultants. There will be time to ask questions, share views, have full and small group discussions and to identify potential governance changes.

The Forum is unique in that it is all scientific and engineering societies and associations. This creates a situation where you can talk to and learn from the other organizations sitting at your tables.

What to expect:

You’ll be reviewing and discussing the best practice tools and practical strategies today’s top leadership teams use to create and sustain success, so don’t expect to spend much of your valuable time discussing theory. The consultants work with organizations around the world and know what works (and what doesn’t). As a result, they constantly revise and update the content of this popular session.

Who can attend?

Your organization’s leadership team including its volunteer leaders and senior staff. To get the most out of this session, senior staff and volunteer leaders should attend together. Many organizations will send their current Chair, Chair-Elect and Chief Staff Officer.
